GIS 4043 Module 5 Geocoding

GIS 4043 Week 5

This week's lab consisted of geocoding two sets of data. The first set of data that we looked at was Eagles nest, which we used Excel to put in our data to create two files that were .xlsx and a .csv file. After adding this data to my map and having the appropriate State Plane in place my final map came out looking like the image above. This portion of the lab did not take very long and was over quickly. The more difficult part came in when we began doing our own geocoding.

Having to geocode all the necessary data for this lab took a long time. There was a lot of tedious things that we had to do in order to get our final results in Excel. Like before we created two data files using .xlsx and a .csv file. Most of the lab went smoothly until the exercise where we had to input in manually where the schools were located on the map. In order to do this, we had to look up where the school was located and try to place the point in the correct space showing the location of the school. Once this was completed we had to then add this map to ArcGIS online and share the map with everyone to see the results. Even though this lab took the longest time, it did have the most information needed for our final project. With the knowledge gained from this lab, I am able to move forward to the labs to come.
