GIS 4043 Module 4 Vector Analysis Part 1 & 2

GIS 4043 Week 4

The overall project was easy in the beginning with Vector 1, however, Vector 2 was a little more difficult. Vector 1 was simple in the respect that most of the information was grab and go and practice for Vector 2. Vector 2 was the hardest part of this weeks lab. Vector 2 incorporated knowledge already learned and using that without direction. Seems easy enough, right? It is, the problem comes in when you have no recollection of the information you previously learned to a certain extent. Thankfully I remembered enough to complete this lab. Moving through Vector 2 in the beginning was easy and fast. The more difficult steps began during part 5. Creating a Union was basically taking layers you already had and combining the two. The two layers that we combined for this lab was Water_buffer and Road_buffer. Once these two layers were combined you exported the features to one feature that became known as buffer_union_export. Then you are asked to use your own overlay method to get the same result. The overlay method that I used to was Intersect. I plugged in the same information and received the same results. Once I removed this layer from my map, we had to take the buffer_union_export layer and combine it with conservation_areas. The tool that I used to do this was Erase. This process wrapped up the ending of creating my map. The last and final touched to create a final product of my map was creating a layout that included a legend, scale, inset map, sources, author, and title. I chose to use the colors green to represent the landscape of the De Soto National Forest. The overall project was challenging as it should be, but if I am honest it proved to have more frustrations than Vector 1.
